Acts 25:1-12

May 5, 2024 Preacher: Michael McKinney Series: Witness

Topic: Expositions Scripture: Acts 25:1–12

Pastor Mike explores the trials of the apostle Paul, highlighting Acts 25:1-12. He unfolds the narrative of Paul, who was captured by the Romans and assaulted with false accusations by the Jewish authorities. Despite a failed attempt to convert Roman ruler Felix to faith in Jesus, Paul stands his ground and refuses to be tried in Jerusalem, fearing assassination attempts. Instead, Paul decides to appeal to Caesar, paralleling an appeal to the Supreme Court. Festus, who is the Governor at the time, agrees and allows Paul to be granted transportation to Rome. Best encapsulating Paul's resilience is his statement, "If I've done something worthy of death, I do not seek to escape death," Pastor Mike elaborates on Paul's assertion, shedding light on his bravery in facing the repercussions with integrity, given his righteousness, through Christ, before God. Drawing from other parts of scripture, especially King David's plea for judgment (Psalm 7) and Proverbs 28:1, Pastor Mike provides further support to this idea and urges Christians to demonstrate similar courage, acknowledging their sins and standing secure in the knowledge of their absolution through Christ, therefore able to stand covered in the righteousness of Jesus before a Holy God.
