Acts 23:12-35

April 21, 2024 Preacher: Michael McKinney Series: Witness

Topic: Expositions Scripture: Acts 23:12–35

In this sermon we looked into the conspiracy against Paul by a group of Jews. Throughout the sermon, the focus was on maintaining one's integrity in the face of evil. Pastor Mike emphasized the importance of God's providence as a source of reassurance, defining it as God's control, guidance, and determinance in all situations. Reinforced by several passages of scripture, Pastor Mike underscored that everything unfolds according to God’s plan. The sermon further explores God's role in detailing individual's lives, including everything from deciding the course and boundaries of nations to the seemingly "random" events in life. Pastor Mike then analyzed Paul’s story, revealing how God’s orchestration led to the protection of Paul, emphasizing that no evil plots can succeed without God's permission. He pointed out that God didn't only use miracles but ordinary events around Paul's life to ensure his safety. In such challenging circumstances Christians should remain true to their faith and pray persistently. Drawing on Psalms 31 and 109, as followers of Christ we were encouraged to trust in God's providence and seek his protection, given the parallels between Paul's protection and that offered to contemporary believers. The sermon concluded with a reminder, for those who are in Christ, of our eternal covenant with God, sealed by the blood of Jesus. This covenant assures us God's guidance and protection in our lives. With its central emphasis on trust in God's providence and commitment to integrity in the face of adversity, this passage in Acts reminds us that for those that trust in Jesus, we are invincible until Christ calls us home to be with Him.
