“We believe membership in a local church is meaningful because it is a weighty yet beautiful commitment".

Though the New Testament does not formally state church membership, many passages show a clear distinction between people who are considered a part of a local church assembly and those who are not (Matthew 18:15-17, Acts 5:12-13, 1 Timothy 5:9-12, 1 Corinthians 5:12-13, 2 Corinthians 2:6). We believe membership in a local church is meaningful because it is a weighty yet beautiful commitment.

Submitting to a local church through covenant membership identifies us with Christ, distinguishes us from the world, presents us a standard of personal and corporate righteousness, makes us responsible for other believers, acts as a visible display of Jesus to the world, glorifies God, and allows us to enjoy His glory. It guides us, assists us, protects us, and affirms us of our salvation.

Covenant Members at Church at Bergen commit to joining this spiritual family that provides encouragement and support. They are called to a biblical degree of responsibility, service and sacrifice. Our elders and leaders pledge to assist our Covenant Members with care, counsel, prayer and teaching. We recognize that true, biblical, covenant community is a joyful, loving way to encourage one another towards Christlikeness and bring further glory to God as His people.
