Come See, Go Tell

March 31, 2024 Preacher: Michael McKinney

Topic: Stand Alone Scripture: Matthew 28:1–10

The Easter sermon "Come See, Go Tell" from Pastor Mike McKinney explored Matthew 28's story of Jesus's resurrection and its implications. The sermon invites everyone to look at the resurrection facts and not base beliefs only on other people's testimonials. Pastor McKinney emphasized three key aspects: women as Jesus's tomb's first visitors, the tomb's emptiness, and the many eyewitness accounts of Jesus post-resurrection. The inclusion of women as witnesses lends credibility to the testimony, given their historically lower status. The lack of Jesus's body further supports the resurrection story. Lastly, hundreds of eyewitnesses claiming to see Jesus alive bolsters this evidence. Moreover, three implications that take root from the resurrection include the resurrection as a profound and joyous truth, a life-altering reality, and a source of healing power. Acceptance of this truth should propel overflowing joy and eagerness to share the news with others, not limiting it to mere belief but passionately integrating it into the heart. The life-altering truth of the resurrection signifies complete devotion to Jesus, an urging to reflect on our life’s central figure, and purports that only Jesus is worthy of that central place. Lastly, with the resurrection comes a healing effect, enabling reconciliation and mending of strained relationships, while advocating for the initial steps towards reconciliation, through the transformative forgiveness birthed from the resurrection.
